Home Buying: 101  - Article 1 of 8

While buying a home is a uniquely individual and local experience, the overview process is universal in the United States, although steps can have regional names, and terms can be used interchangeably between markets. In this article, we will explore homebuying basics or the 101 of all things Bozeman real estate!

The Basics:

  1. Determine your budget: Before you start house hunting, you should figure out how much you can afford to spend on a home. This will depend on your income, expenses, and credit score.
  2. Get pre-approved for a mortgage: Getting pre-approved for a mortgage will help you determine how much money you can borrow and will give you an idea of your monthly mortgage payments.
Find a real estate agent: A great real estate agent can help you find the right home in Montana that meets your needs and fits your budget. (We know some EXCELLENT agents at HōM 406!)
  3. House hunt: While most home searches begin online, your agent will help you identify homes that fit your unique criteria, and you can visit open houses and coordinate private viewings to see them in person.
  4. Make an offer: Once you find a home you like, you'll need to make an offer. Your real estate agent will help you with this process and negotiate on your behalf.
  5. Get a home inspection: Before closing on the sale, you should have a professional home inspection done to identify any issues with the property that may need to be addressed.
  6. Close on the sale: If everything checks out, you'll need to close on the sale by signing all of the necessary paperwork and paying any fees and closing costs.

Overall, buying a home in Montana can be a straightforward process if you follow these basic steps and work with a knowledgeable real estate agent.
